Tradition, Legacy, Pride, Vision, we are Akron’s Distillery

In 1917, Rocco Piscazzi arrived, by boat, as a stowaway, to the Land of the Free!! A couple of years later some of those freedom’s were taken away when the Volstead act was enacted. Americans now had to find illegal sources of Alcoholic beverages.  Seeing a huge opportunity, Rocco and his associates sprung into action and began to create a network of distilling and distribution throughout Akron and the surrounding area. They quickly earned the trust of the public by offering quality moonshine and whiskey. The prices were fair and the product quality was consistent.  They were the most successful and sought-after bootleggers in the area.

Rocco and his associates had stills, warehouses, and network that spread all over Akron and the surrounding communities. The Ohio & Erie Canal played a big role in the transport & distribution of raw materials, and distilled spirits. When prohibition ended Rocco opened Roxy’s Café, located along the towpath trail in Akron’s Cascade Valley. If you follow that same Towpath Trail north into Merriman Valley, you will find us, Towpath Distillery.

With an extensive history in the Akron community, the Towpath Distillery intends to bring back some family traditions and add in new world techniques to produce high quality spirits. Legally this time of course. Just like past generations, we will produce spirits known for their consistency and high quality. Something the citizens of Akron can be proud of. This is Akron’s Distillery.
