AKRON-BASED TOWPATH DISTILLERY RECEIVES MULTIPLE AWARDS AT THE 2023 AMERICAN DISTILLING INSTITUTE’S INTERNATIONAL SPIRITS COMPETITION

AKRON, OH (May 25, 2023) – Towpath Distillery, owned locally by the Piscazzi family and distilled in Akron, has won multiple awards for its spirits at the 2023 American Distilling Institute’s International Spirits Competition.
Anthony Piscazzi, the founder of Towpath Distillery, was inspired by his family to continue their long legacy of distilling. Anthony’s great-grandfather, Rocco Piscazzi, stowed away on a boat in 1917 and as years followed, Rocco and his team started distributing and distilling quality moonshine and whiskey in and around Northeast Ohio, to become the most successful bootleggers in the Akron area.

Towpath Spirits launched in 2019. Today, Anthony, with his Head Distiller David Sheffer—a Firestone High School graduate with a decade of winemaking experience in Napa Valley and over three years of expertise at an international barrel manufacturing firm—both carry forward Rocco's legacy through Towpath Distillery.

Since 2007, the American Distilling Institute (ADI) has held an International Spirits Competition every year that invites all spirit makers to submit their spirits. Winners are selected by a group of expert spirit judges and stewards, without knowing the name of the spirit or where it’s made.
